Fourth Edition of the ICWA Essay Competition

As part of its ‘Awareness Programme on Indian Foreign Policy’, Indian Council of World Affairs announces the fourth edition of ICWA Essay Competition for high school students (15 - 18 years of age) and undergraduate and graduate students (18 - 25 years of age).

TOPICS FOR THE ICWA ESSAY COMPETITION 2019

For University students (Senior Level)

Topic: "Impact of International Affairs on Daily Lives in India" or "Impact of Government's Foreign Policy on Daily Lives in India"

Ages: 18-25

Length: 2500 words, case study is encouraged.

SUBMIT YOUR ESSAY BY 30TH SEPTEMBER

For High School students (Junior Level)

Topic: Why climate change is important for India’s Foreign Policy?’ ‘Why should India be friends with its neighbours? OR Why Indian Foreign policy should give top priority to neighbours?’

Ages: 15-18

Length: 2500 words, case study is encouraged.


GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

  • The participants must be an enrolled student in a School or graduate/post graduate degree program in a College/University from anywhere across India.
  • All Essays (soft copy only) should be sent to essayicwa@gmail.com latest by 30th SEPTEMBER 2019.
  • The entries could also be submitted in the form of a video, with a duration of five minutes only.
  • In case the Video is uploaded on any other platform other then YouTube, the video should be recorded in AVI, MPEG or MP4 format only.
  • The entries should be submitted along with a certificate from School/Institute/College/University where the participant is currently enrolled.
  • A participant can send only one entry. In case it is found that any participant has submitted more than one entry, all will be considered invalid.
  • The entry should be original. Copied entries will not be considered under the contest.
  • The participant must be the same person who has written the essay and plagiarism would not be allowed.
  • The entries should include a separate cover page carrying the following personal information:
    • Name of the participant
    • Father/Mother Name
    • Class/Programme
    • Name and Address of School/College/ University
    • Residence Address
    • Mobile & Landline Numbers
    • Email Address
    • Note: There should be no personal information on the essay paper.
  • The essay can be written in English or Hindi language.


EVALUATION CRITERIA

All the entries received within the due date will be placed before a Selection Committee for final selection. The decision of the Selection Committee will be final and binding on all the contestants. The essays will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

      1. Central Theme (20%)
      2. Coherence and Organization in Structure (20%)
      3. Creativity (40%)
      4. Clarity in Language, Expression and Style (20%)


PRIZES

Junior Level | First prize is ₹15,000, Second prize is ₹10,000, and third prize is ₹5,000.

Senior Level | First prize is ₹25,000, Second prize is ₹15,000, and third prize is ₹10,000.
