Gandhi-MLK Power of Non-Violence

On 26 February 2021, the Embassy of India Student Hub and the Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center of the historic Howard University hosted a Black History Month celebration event, with an enlightening discussion on the ‘Power of Non-Violence’ with Dr. Helen Bond, a distinguished professor of education at the Howard University.

The event highlighted the common threads running through India’s freedom movement and the US civil rights movement. Dr. Bond spoke about the significant influence of the Gandhian philosophy of ahimsa and non-violence on Howard Thurman, Benjamin E. Mays, Booker T. Washington, and several other African American leaders of the US Civil Rights Movement.
